After watching such a viscerally stunning performance, I realized how important the performance can be. What’s the point of a good song, if people won’t see you in concert to perform them? Sound pitch perfect in the studio is easy. It’s the live stuff that can be difficult. I’ve learned that patience is a virtue. Do it right. Not first, or fast. Just right.

Finally ended up writing something new today. Its been so long overdue.

Ive been doing a lot of thinking, and found that knowing not only what you what to do, but the exact steps you want to take to achieve them is probably more daunting than not knowing what you want out of life at all.

I think not knowing allows you to delude yourself. Because the possibilities can end up being endless. A sort of “I don’t know what I want to do, but I can be anything” type of thinking.

It’s knowing the path you’d like to take in life, that can be frustrating. You can end up viewing yourself as a failure. Because you did not achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself. And that is disappointing.

Not knowing gives you the excuse of “I didn’t know.”

It all comes back to that saying Ignorance is bliss.

I love covers. There is something about another artist’s rendition of a song that can show you a completely different side of that song you love. Rita Ora’s rendition of Hey Ya proves Jay-Z kows his stuff. Signing her to his label was a smart move on his part. Check out Rita Ora’s rendition of Hey Ya!

Music can fit into two catergorys regardless of genre.

Art Gallery: chaotic, passionate,messy.

Or Ikea: fresh, neat, clean.

My heart lies in the chaos. It always kind of has been all my life. I don’t like to be put in a box. Go ahead and try to pigeonhole me all you want. But one thing’s for certain. Whether you like it or not, I’m never going to stay there. And at the end of the day, least I can say that.

I’m tired of this type of rationalization. As artists, why are we expected to fit into a certain type of box? If someone were to ask you where you grew up, or what high school you graduated from, does that make you who you are? Of course not!

“Chasing Pavements” is an amazing song, but very sub-par when you compare it to any of the songs on Adele’s latest album 21. And, when it comes to Rihanna “If It’s Lovin That You Need” is also a blimp compared to “We Found Love”.

It’s all about growth. The growth and flexible environment needed to feel comfortable going outside that comfort zone. One song does not define me.
